Classroom Tech
BenQ Interactive Boards

Every classroom has a BenQ board. Here's everything you need to use it confidently.

⚡ Turning On & Off +

Press the power button on the lower-right of the board or use the remote. Always power down at the end of the day — hold the power button or use the remote's off button. The board will prompt you to confirm shut down.

🪪 Your BenQ Card +

Each teacher receives a personal BenQ NFC card. Tap it to the reader on the board to instantly load your saved profile, preferences, and apps. Keep this card with you — don't leave it in the room.

📡 Wireless Connection (ClickShare Dongle) +
  1. Plug the ClickShare dongle into a USB-A port on your laptop
  2. Launch the ClickShare app (or it may launch automatically)
  3. Click the button on the dongle — your screen mirrors instantly
  4. To stop sharing, click the dongle button again or unplug

If the dongle doesn't work, try the ClickShare desktop app from clickshare.barco.com

🔌 Wired Connection (HDMI) +

Find the HDMI cable at the board's connection panel (usually lower left side). Plug into your laptop — use a dongle adapter if your laptop has USB-C only. Switch the board's input to HDMI if it doesn't detect automatically.

✏️ Annotation & Touch +

The BenQ board supports multi-touch directly with your finger. Use the built-in stylus pen (stored in the board's pen tray) for finer annotation. The board's EZWrite app lets you write, draw, and annotate over any content. Annotations can be saved and shared with students.

☁️ Shared Spaces +

BenQ boards have a built-in Shared Space cloud feature. Students can contribute to the board from their devices in real time. Great for brainstorming, collaborative note-taking, and group work. Ask Jeremy Orr for a walkthrough of this feature.

📱 Apps on the Board +

BenQ boards run Android and have a curated set of educational apps pre-installed. You can also cast from your device using the ClickShare app. Contact Jeremy Orr to request additional apps for your board.

📞 Classroom Phones — Zoom Phone +

Every classroom is equipped with a Zoom Phone for internal and external calls. Your extension will be provided during orientation.

  • Log into the Zoom app on your computer or use the physical Zoom Phone device in your room
  • Dial internal extensions directly, or search the Zoom directory to find colleagues
  • For emergencies or admin needs, dial the main office extension
  • Voicemail transcripts are delivered automatically to your SRDS email

Contact Myron Toltsis at mtoltsis@saddleriverday.org for extension or setup issues.

💡 Pro tip: Arrive 10 minutes early before your first class to test your board connection. A little prep prevents a lot of scrambling.

🚀 Getting Started +
  1. Go to app.schoology.com and sign in with your SRDS Google account
  2. Your courses should be pre-loaded — contact Jeremy Orr if anything is missing

📣 Communication +

Use Announcements to push updates to all students in a course. Use Messages for direct communication with students and parents. Parents have real-time visibility into assignments and grades.

🧑‍💻 Questions about Schoology? Jeremy Orr is your go-to. Email jorr@saddleriverday.org to schedule a training session or walkthrough.
Student Info System

Policies
SRDS AI Policy

You set the tone for AI use in your classroom. Here's what our policy says — and what it means in practice.

Ethics & Accountability
No hate, no plagiarism
Students must not use AI to promote violence, hate, or discrimination. Using AI to plagiarize — including rephrasing others' work — carries the same consequences as academic dishonesty.
Privacy & Security
No personal data in AI
Students must never enter personal, identifying, or sensitive information into AI tools. Most platforms retain user data. Treat AI prompts as semi-public.
Appropriate Use
Teacher decides
AI may only be used when you explicitly permit it — in your syllabus or assignment description. You retain full authority over AI use in your classroom.
Verify & Disclose
Always fact-check. Always disclose.
AI-generated content must be verified with reliable sources. Students must clearly disclose AI use in their work. Failure to disclose = failing grade on that assignment.
"Teaching students how to think, not what to think."
SRDS Motto — the foundation of our approach to AI
🤝 Want to thoughtfully incorporate AI into your teaching? Connect with Jeremy Orr or Laura Hollis — we love talking about this and can help you design assignments that work with or around AI.
